In 2020, Northwestern Medicine launched a first-of-its-kind cardiovascular disease fellowship to mentor the next generation of clinicians in the emerging area of artificial intelligence.
This joint program is led by Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and the McCormick School of Engineering Computer Science Department. The program launched in 2019 under the leadership of cardiologist James D. Thomas, MD, and Kristian J. Hammond, PhD. |
The one-year training program involves an immersive computer programming boot camp, coursework in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and integrated research with Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute faculty. The program is geared toward cardiology, cardiac surgery and internal medicine trainees, and results in a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) degree.
